4 concentrated, week long courses benefiting those with an interest in either the History of Art or the Fine Arts.
An opportunity to study drawing, oil painting and sculpture using structured, step-by-step methods. Whether you are a novice or have previous tuition we believe the majority want to receive clear, practical instruction.
The courses are held at the Lavender Hill Studios for a group of maximum 10 students.
When:
Monday - Friday - 9.30am - 5.00pm
Details:
Week One:
Foundation Course. (Week 1) An overview of the grammar of drawing and painting. Drawing from plaster casts we focus on the basics of proportion, line and volume, and chiaroscuro, completing the course with a figure drawing and a still-life painting.
Week Two:
Portrait Course. (Week 2) A structured approach to developing a portrait in both charcoal and oils. You will do a series of exercises to understand the lessons of proportion and setting up poses. The goal is to finish the course with a solid likeness of the sitter.
Week Three:
Figure Course. (Week 3) Emphasizing proportion, balance, and gesture is essential to figure drawing. We teach a centuries old, brilliantly simple way of doing this.
Week Four:
Sculpture or Landscape Course. (Week 4) Two new courses offering an opportunity to sculpt a portrait from life or explore your plein-aire skills in and around London.
All levels welcome.
